Faber-Castell – Innovation from tradition

The beginnings of Faber-Castell go back to the year 1761. At that time, the carpenter Kaspar Faber (1730-1784) began producing pencils in Stein near Nuremberg, which his wife sold on the Nuremberg market. As early as the 19th century, the foundation for conquering the world market was laid with branches in trading metropolises such as New York and Paris. It was also during this period that the company acquired its current name, Faber-Castell, through a marriage of nobility. Today, with production facilities in nine countries and over 8000 employees, the company is the world's largest manufacturer of pencils and colored pencils and offers an extensive range of stationery and paper goods. The company attaches great importance to social as well as ecological sustainability. Moreover, since 2010, 95 percent of the wood used has already been certified in accordance with the strict FSC requirements, and thanks to the company's own forests, Faber-Castell is one of the few companies in the writing instruments industry to be certified as climate-neutral.
