In contrast to conventional PVC cables, these cables are halogen-free: The dangerous release of halogen-containing fire gases is thus excluded and smoke generation is minimized. Halogen-free cables are also flame-retardant and there is no dangerous ignition cord effect.
Category 5/5e
Cat 5 cables are used for signal transmission with high data transmission rates. They are designed for operating frequencies up to 100 MHz and are suitable for Fast or Gigabit Ethernet. The designation 5e comes from a revision of the ISO11801 and EN50173 standards when they were made suitable for Gigabit Ethernet. Cat-5e cables are backward compatible with conventional Cat-5 cables and are perfectly adequate for home users in the vast majority of situations.
